5 Things I wish I had known when I was younger
Don’t worry about what other people think of you.
Worrying what others thing about you is wasting time. Seeking validation, respect or approval from others, keeps you from accomplishing all that you desire. Constructive criticism is always good, but at the end of the day rely on your own assessment of you rather than others.
Always double cleanse, Once for the skin, once for the soul.
Letting skin marinate in makeup (and a day's worth of oil build-up) can lead to clogged pores and zits but besides the regular skin benefits, it’s important to wash your face every night. Take the time to address whatever’s bothering you and wash it away. Close your eyes and visualize your anger and hurt as the dirt on your face, wash it away… Wash away the tears, the sweat, and the hardships and let it go. The greatest source of misery and hatred in this world is clinging to past hurts. What happened, happened, you can’t change it. So don’t waste your energy dwelling on anger, resentment or disappointment. It only keeps you stuck in the past and holds you back from moving forward in your life. Wash it away and let it go.
Being who you truly want to be—who you truly are—is one of the most beautiful things. When you are young this is never an easy task, because so often you don’t quite know who you are. But at the end of the day however hard you try, you can’t avoid being yourself. Don’t change who you are to make other people like you. If you won’t accept yourself, then no one has any obligation to accept you exactly as you are.
Always wear sunscreen.
You know the harsh effects the sun can have your skin, and the importance of protecting your skin from these effects by wearing sunscreen. But the same rules count in life. You are going to encounter things in your life that if you don’t protect yourself you can end up with a burnt posterior. Think, plan ahead and try to minimize the damaging effects by protecting yourself and your heart as much as possible.
Value your real friends.
A true friend will never expect you to act a certain way or change who you are. They will be crazy with you, sad with you, happy with you and never judge you. It’s not easy to find a genuine good friend, but when you do, hold onto them with dear life.
